JPAFP is, a peer reviewed, official publication of The Academy of Family Physicians Pakistan. It was decided in FAMILYCON, the Annual International Conference on Family Medicine in 2009 to publish “JPAFP” by the name of “The Family Physician” as the official academic journal of Academy of Family Physicians Pakistan from Lahore Pakistan. Since then, the journal has been published without interruption first it was published quarterly then on annual basis and now biannually since 2017. This journal covers clinical and research work on all aspects of physical and mental health. The manuscripts are categorized as original research articles, review articles, case reports and special feature articles in the field of Family Medicine and allied health sciences. The official language of JPAFP is English. The journal is distributed to all members of Academy of Family Physicians Pakistan, medical colleges, libraries and related institutes locally and abroad.
The mission of the Academy of Family Physicians Pakistan is to attain optimal physical, mental, and social health and wellbeing for every citizen of Pakistan. For this purpose, the Academy of Family Physicians Pakistan and its members dedicate their efforts and resources. Academy of Family Physicians Pakistan brings together a constellation of policy documents. Policy statements, clinical reports, clinical practice guidelines and technical reports can now be found in one convenient location in JPAFP
The articles submitted to JPAFP are assessed initially by the editors and a primary decision is made regarding further processing. Once such a decision is made, the article is reviewed anonymously by four reviewers including a statistical reviewer. When there is no agreement among the reviewers, the manuscript is sent to another reviewer. The whole exercise takes about 16-24 weeks till acceptance or rejection. The final decision regarding acceptance rests with the Editorial Board and the Chief Editor of JPAFP. This journal provides free open access to its content.
The online edition contains all material from the print edition, in addition to articles published online of JPAFP. The online version of Journal Academy of Family Physicians Pakistan is considered the journal of record as archives of past issues are available. JPAFP supports and adheres to the guidelines responsible for publishing online for free access. Articles published in the online journal, all policy statements from the Academy of Family Physicians Pakistan, and specific articles deemed important to the general public are made freely available immediately upon publication. JPAFP is made freely available to institutions and individuals at national and international level.
